anti-virus software. A free trial version is available at the above link.



Pandasecurity.com
Email address is needed, but it's a free online scan. They also have some very popular anti-virus software you can purchase and free trial downloads.

BitDefender.com
Look for the security kit, under it is the free online scan link. Many useful tools at this site and their own anti-virus software too.



AVG Anit-Virus

This is a very popular site. They offer a free version of their anti-virus software for downloading. Full featured and free. They continually update the viruses that are scanned for, and you just download the updates.



Sophos.com
Anti-virus software for many operating systems including the Mac, Linux and Unix. Download online and they have 30 day trial versions.

McAfee.com
They have a full suite of utilities to protect you from viruses. Automatic updates and alerts are also a part of their packages.
They have won many awards with their products and have many utilities that include blocking spam, firewalls and more. They are a pioneer in the field of viruses. Check out their Virex for the Mac OS at

Symantec.com
Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus
Probably one of the best known anti-virus packages along with McAfee. They to have a full suite of various utilities for viruses, hackers and more.

Gladiator Security Labs
Full anti-virus protection software suite and it's free. It also detects and unpacks runtime- packed trojans/worms/backdoors - an important feature. Some scanners don't have this feature.

The above links should get you well on your way to scanning your computer and protecting it. You can also use the search engines and search on free online virus scan or free anti-virus software to find free downloads and other free resources.

Also check at some of the sites such as CNet.com and ZDNet.com for user reviews of the products by searching on the product name. This is useful for looking for any problems with the software that might relate to your specific computer or software on your machine. This was discussed in the Firewalls section.
